The Dairy Farmers of Ontario and the Ontario Minor Hockey Association have announced the bursary recipients for the '22-'23 season.
One of the award winners is Napanee's own, Jack Madden.
It may seem difficult for youngsters today to find strong role models to look up to. With social media and its numerous platforms playing such a major part in all of our lives, there are plenty of folks to choose from for our community's youth to emulate.
In most of those cases, we don't know those people and may never meet them. Under this belief, it's possible for us to overlook someone in our own community, someone among us, that may be a tremendous role model.
Well, the news of the prestigious bursary being awarded to a member of our community has placed a spotlight on an individual who really is an example of a hometown hero.
Congratulations to Jack Madden being named as one of five award winners!
From personal experience, Jack has shown he is a leader and is very deserving of such an honour. While being an incredible athlete, playing multiple sports, Jack has also maintained an intense focus on his scholastic pursuits. His attention to detail and perseverance are present in all activities he participates in and does everything with a big smile.
While Jack excels in developing his own skill sets, perhaps his desire to help others achieve their goals is just as impressive. Jack is a great player, but an even better teammate. To be fortunate enough to coach him through his last few seasons of minor hockey, witnessing this exemplary young man push himself and guide his team was truly astonishing and inspirational.
So, if you want someone to look up to and model yourself after, no need to look any further that your own backyard - you may just find what you're looking for.
