While Napanee has hosted an annual tournament for many years, this is the fourth anniversary
of the tournament being named after one of Napanee’s own.
On March 21, 2014, Napanee lost one of its foremost supporters of youth sport, Andy
McGarvey. Andy operated AM Sports for many years, beginning beside the old arena on York
Street, then moving to the Strathcona Paper Centre when it opened. Always smiling, always
friendly, Andy left an unforgettable impression on thousands of Napanee and area
sportspeople. As a small token of appreciation towards his incredible dedication to youth
sport, the NDMH Board unanimously decided to rename our annual tournament the McGarvey
Memorial Tournament.
