Tournament Rules House League & Local League

November 29 – Dec 1, 2024

 

Team Managers are asked to register their teams at Best and Bash Arena (formerly Strathcona Paper Centre) 45 minutes prior to the start of their first tournament game. 

 

All rules and regulations, including infractions, suspensions and discipline are subject to OMHA & OHF rules.

 

1.    Teams must register at the tournament office prior to their first game. Teams are to present their Approved Roster and Travel Permits at check in.

2.    All teams are guaranteed 4 games.

3.    Only players on the approved roster are eligible to play in the tournament.

4.    Team rosters are limited to 20 players, including goalies. Rosters need to be submitted in advance of the Tournament. However, if a more up-to-date Roster becomes available, please bring on the opening day of the Tournament.

5.    Teams must be prepared to play up to 15 minutes before their scheduled start time (except for the first game of each day)

6.    Team officials are responsible for their players and parent's conduct both on and off the ice.

7.    Home jerseys will be white (or lighter colour). If a colour conflict arises, the home team will be asked to wear their alternate set. If the home team does not have an alternate set, the visiting team will be asked to wear their alternate set.

8.    If there is a 5-goal spread in the 3rd period, the clock shall become run time until the spread is reduced to less than 5 goals. If during the run time a penalty is assessed, 2-minute penalties will be posted as 3-minutes and 5-minute penalties will be posted as 7-minutes.

9.    No time outs in the preliminary games. One 30 second time out per team, per game, in all semi-final and championship games.

10.         The Tournament Chair and/or Napanee District Minor Hockey President will have final say in all questions or disputes arising from the tournament. All decisions are final!

11.         There will be no protest entertained on referee’s decisions. All other decisions on rules, protests and conduct will be made by the Tournament Committee and are final.

 

12.         Game duration: stop time in minutes

13.         Pre-game Warm-Ups:

The warmup will be posted at 2 minutes.

 

Championship Games are 10-10-10 with a 2-minute warm-up (time permitting and subject to change).

 

14.         Handshakes will occur at the beginning of each game.

15.         Ice-resurfacing will take place at the end of each game.

16.         All game sheets will be electronic.

 

Tournament Suspensions

 

1.    Any suspensions received in the tournament will be served in the tournament where possible. Any fighting penalties will result in immediate tournament expulsion.

2.    Tournament suspensions and length of suspension are as per OMHA rules. (Check your league to find out if you have to serve your suspensions in your league as well)

3.    Any player or coaching staff receiving a Match Penalty is suspend for the rest of the tournament.

4.    Referees and tournament officials will have zero tolerance for profanity, obscene gestures, discriminatory slurs and verbal abuse from coaches, players and parents

5.    It is up to each team to find what, if any, suspensions occurred in their game, by their team, and what suspensions are to be served in the tournament.

6.    Any team playing with a suspended player will have that game(s) 

defaulted by a 3-0 score and the Head Coach suspended for 3 games. (as per OMHA rules)



Tie Break

 

Following are the tie breaking rules for determining Division standings and Wild Card Teams “in order” (once a tie breaking rule is used or not applicable, it will not be used again)

 

1.               Most Points (2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss)

2.               Winner of head-to-head game (only if two teams are tied)

3.               Goal Differential:

4.               Goals For ÷ (Goals For + Goals Against)

5.               Fewest goals against

6.               Fewest penalty minutes in all games played

7.               The team that scored the earliest goal in their round robin game involving the tied teams

8.               Coin flip (team from farthest away will call the flip, winner of flip gets higher position)

 

 

Overtime Rules

1.               No overtime in round robin games.

2.               Semi Final, and Championship games:

A)   if tied a 5 minute 4 on 4 over time will take place (teams do not change ends).

B)   In the event the game remains tied after 5 minutes a best of three alternating shootout will occur, with the home team shooting second. The coach must indicate on the game sheet the starting three shooters prior to the game. If still tied a sudden victory shootout will commence with the rest of the team’s players. No player may shoot twice until all players on the team (except goaltenders) have had a turn. If one team has used all their players on the game sheet, then both teams can restart their selection.

 

At all times, the Tournament Director reserves itself the final word on the interpretation of the rules and has the right to change or alter these rules without any prior notice to act in the best interests of the tournament.
